When you have a potential client reach out to you, you don't want to be rushing to get something together to send to them but you also don't want them to have to wait for ages for you to get back to them. Having a portfolio created and ready to send is an easy way to achieve this.
When creating a portfolio it is important that you don't overwhelm your potential client with all the nitty gritty details like your business times and communication methods, leave that for the client onboarding process. You want it to be clear who you are, what you offer and why they should work with you.
I have created a list of six things you should include in your portfolio so you can show your potential client who you are, what you offer and why they should work with you.
1. Your business name and about me.
This might seem like common sense but I see portfolios without it all the time. It is super important that you show yourself in your portfolio. You want to make a connection with your potential customer. Check out this blog for tips on standing out from the crowd.
2. Your Services
A clear list of what services you offer. It also helps to have a small description that explains what the service is. Try to keep your list as concise as possible, if two tasks are similar you can bunch them together. Make sure to use terms that are Specific and avoid acronyms unless they are super common.
3. Examples of your work.
Potential Clients love to be able to see your work. Now I know this one can be tricky when you're just starting out and don't have any client work to show. In this case, I like to have mockups to share. For example, if you going to be writing blogs, mockup blog articles to showcase your writing or if you are going to be doing Pinterest mock-up some pins (if you want to stand out, you can create mockups specific to the client).
4. Your Rates
This is super important, if a client has reached out to you then they want to know your prices. How you set your prices depends on a lot of different factors but whether you are working for an hourly rate or have packages set up, you need to ensure that you have clearly listed what this includes.
5. Client Testimonials
Testimonials are like a review of a product online. They are so important to have. It helps your potential client to see how other business owners feel about working with you. It can give them insight into what you are doing for these businesses. Now if you are new you won't be able to include this, but you should add it as soon as you can.
6. A call to action
Give your client a clear next step. Click this link to book a discovery call or email me to book with me. Whatever the step is make it as simple as possible for the client to follow up. The simpler the more likely they are to follow through.
A great place to create portfolios that look professional is in Canva, you can grab a template, add in what you need and save a PDF. But it doesn't have super fancy it can be a simple word document with all the info inside.
